Recently, I had an adorable coastal Maine family session in Harpswell, Maine. It was a beautiful location for capturing unforgettable moments. We could not have asked for a better night to be enjoying the beauty that is the Harpswell Maine coast.
Mom was one of my sorority sisters from college. So when she reached out to me to do a family session I was beyond excited. We had not seen each other in almost 20 years so it was not only special to get to meet her little ones by be able to catch up wit her and her college sweetheart husband. Spending time with them brought back so many wonderful memories.
One tip I always give to parents is to let their kids have fun during the session. Some children may feel a bit shy or uncomfortable in front of the camera at first. I typically start with some posed family shots and then transition into more candid and playful moments.
In this particular session, the kids had a blast playing in the water and getting a bit messy. Within just a few minutes, they were laughing and having so much fun that they forgot about the camera altogether. One of my favorite moments of this session was when they all went into the water and started playing around. Dad was tossing one daughter while mom was lifting up the littlest one. They were looking at each other laughing which always brings so much joy to me as I document these moments.
I believe that allowing children to be themselves and enjoy the session leads to the most genuine and heartfelt photos. And what better way to end a session than with everyone laughing and splashing in the water?
As a Family Photographer in Maine, I love capturing these special family moments in such a beautiful setting like Harpswell. Do you agree that natural, fun moments make the best photos?
