There’s something magical about photographing families at the beach—especially when the golden hour light shows up just right. That’s exactly what happened during this sunset family session at Drake’s Island Beach in Wells, Maine. The sky gave us the softest glow, the evening was warm and this sweet family showed up looking absolutely picture-perfect.
The one thing that didn’t quite cooperate? The wind! It had a mind of its own that evening, tousling hair, flipping dresses, and trying its best to crash the party. But honestly, it added a fun, spontaneous energy to the whole session. The wind may not have been invited, but we embraced it. It ended up giving us so many playful, joy-filled moments.
From the moment we stepped onto the beach, these four were ready to laugh, explore, and just be together. And that’s what made this session so special. Their connection was effortless, their love for each other so evident in every interaction. Whether they were snuggling up against the dunes or chasing waves along the shoreline, it was clear that they were soaking up every second of this time together.
One of my favorite things about family sessions is being able to witness those in-between moments. The silly faces, the belly laughs, the tight hugs. This session had all of that and more. I left the beach that evening with a full heart, a camera full of magic, and a deep appreciation for the joy that families like this bring to my work.
I know I’ll be looking back on this session for a long time. Not just because of the gorgeous light or the dreamy beach backdrop—but because of them. Their love, Their laughter, Their perfectly imperfect, wind-blown, sun-kissed evening on the coast of Maine.
