Some sessions stand out because of the beautiful light or the perfect weather. Others become unforgettable because of the people in front of the camera. This session was one of those.
I’ve had the privilege of photographing this sweet family three times over the last fifteen months, and each session has somehow been better than the last. One of my favorite parts of being a family photographer is watching families grow. Every session tells another chapter of their story as babies become toddlers, siblings grow closer, and parents settle into the beautiful rhythm of family life.
We met at Pine Point Beach on a gorgeous summer morning. The sun was shining, the wind was calm, and it was one of those mornings that reminds you why Maine is such an incredible place to raise a family. While the setting was beautiful, it wasn’t what made this session so special.
A Story I Hear All the Time
Before the session, Mom reached out and shared something that I hear from parents more often than you might think. She felt guilty that her younger daughter didn’t have nearly as many professional photos as her oldest.
Life has a funny way of doing that. With your first child, every milestone is documented. Then another little one comes along, schedules become busier, and before you know it, months have gone by without updating family photos. It doesn’t mean you love one child more than the other. It simply means life is full.
As moms, though, we tend to carry that guilt anyway.
You Don’t Have to Do It All
Moms put so much pressure on themselves. We all have those moments where we think we should have done more or done something differently. While I can’t make mom guilt disappear, I can help take one thing off your never-ending to-do list.
Family photos aren’t just about checking a box. They’re about preserving this season before it slips away. They’re about making sure every child sees themselves in the family story and every parent has memories to look back on long after these little moments are gone.
The Magic Happens When You Let Go
What made this session so special wasn’t the weather or the beach. It was the way Mom and Dad approached the morning.
They weren’t worried about getting their girls to sit perfectly or smile at the camera every second. Instead, they let them explore. We walked along the beach, played in the sand, laughed together, and simply enjoyed being present. The girls got to be kids, and because of that, the smiles and snuggles happened naturally.
Those are the moments that become the photographs families treasure the most.
Hot Take…
Your family photo session is only as stressful as you decide it’s going to be.
I know… that’s probably not what you expected a family photographer to say. But hear me out.
The more you chase perfection, the less you’ll actually enjoy the experience.
If you’re focused on perfectly coordinated outfits, perfectly behaved kids, or getting everyone to smile at the camera at the exact same moment, you’ll miss the reason you booked family photos in the first place.
Instead, let your kids be kids. Let them run, dig in the sand, collect seashells, and snuggle into your arms. Laugh when things don’t go according to plan. Those little in-between moments are the ones you’ll treasure most because they’re real.
Your children won’t remember if their hair was perfectly in place or if everyone smiled in every photo. They’ll remember how they felt. They’ll remember whether Mom and Dad laughed with them, played with them, and simply enjoyed being together.
That’s the kind of memory I want to help you create. The beautiful photos are just the bonus.
Why I Love Sessions Like This
After photographing families for many years, I’ve learned that the very best sessions are usually the ones that are a little messy. Toddlers wander, babies get sandy, and someone always wants to stop and look at every interesting shell on the beach.
That’s real life.
My number one goal is for every child to leave a session saying, “Okay… that was fun!”
Because what good are beautiful photos if the only thing your children remember is being rushed or told to smile? I would much rather deliver a gallery filled with genuine laughter, big hugs, and authentic connection than one filled with perfectly posed smiles that don’t tell the story of who your family really is.
When families come ready to slow down, trust the process, and simply enjoy being together, something incredible happens. We create more than beautiful images—we create memories.
The best family sessions aren’t perfect.
They’re perfectly imperfect.
And I truly believe that’s exactly how they’ll be remembered.
If you are ready to make memories and you want me to capture them please reach out.
