Why Newborn Photos Matter So Much (And Why You’ll Never Regret Taking Them)

As a Maine Family Photographer, few things are as meaningful to me as documenting those first fleeting days with a new baby. Maybe it’s because I know firsthand just how precious—and how overwhelming—that season can be.

When my son was born early at just 4 pounds after seven long years of infertility, one round of IVF, and a complicated pregnancy, nothing could’ve prepared me for what it would feel like to finally hold him. Those first few weeks were a blur of exhaustion, emotion, and awe. I barely remember the details… but the photos? They bring it all back.

The first year of your baby’s life is somehow the longest and shortest time you’ll ever experience. Every day holds a new milestone. Every tiny detail—the way they curl their toes, the way their little fingers wrap around yours, the way they snuggle into your chest—feels like something you never want to forget.

That’s why newborn photos matter.

In the whirlwind of postpartum life, I almost skipped being in the photos. I wasn’t feeling my best. I wasn’t sure I wanted to be seen. But I’m so grateful I didn’t let that stop me. The images I have of those quiet moments at home with my son are some of the most cherished of my entire life.

And it’s that experience—my own journey as a new mom—that shaped how I photograph newborns now. My sessions are designed to be relaxed, natural, and full of emotion. I focus on the connection you share, the little details you love, and the beauty of this fleeting season.

At The Maine Photo Studio in Biddeford, we’ve created the perfect place to capture this chapter of your story.

Our studio is filled with natural light, soft textures, and cozy neutral tones that let the love and emotion in your images shine. It’s a space that feels like home—but without the stress of cleaning the house or trying to prep your space while caring for a newborn.

You get all the comfort and authenticity of a lifestyle session—without needing to host a photographer in your home. Just bring yourselves, snuggle your baby, and let me capture the quiet, beautiful chaos of your new beginning.

These images become more than just photos. They’re heirlooms. They’re your legacy.

That’s why I always ask parents during our session prep: What do you want to remember most? What makes this time special for you? Because every baby has their own story. Every family’s journey into parenthood is unique. And my job is to help you tell that story—beautifully, honestly, and timelessly.

You will never regret having newborn photos taken. But you might regret not getting in the frame.
